GC B level tournament 14 May

report by Richard Keighley

A full field of 16 players assembled for this one-day tournament in the National Series, which was won by Peter Adams (Guildford).

Four blocks were established in the usual format. Peter Adams gave an early indication of his good form by winning all three of his games and he was joined in the knockout by Nick Boxall (Wrest Park). Tim Barzycki (Pinchbeck) and Stephanie White (Long Eaton Park) also progressed with two wins apiece as did Tony Elliott (Ealing) and Colin Carver (Enfield) in their block. In the final block, three players achieved two wins each. David Ball (Leighton-Linslade) and Nigel Owen (Enfield) progressed at the expense of Judith Rowe (Ashby) who missed out on countback by a single hoop.

In the quarter finals, Peter beat Stephanie (7-3) and Nick beat Tim by the same score. Nigel pipped Tony (7-5) and David beat Colin (7-4). The semi-finals were both closely fought with Peter beating Nigel (7-5) and David winning the golden hoop against Nick. Peter maintained his unbeaten run in the final by beating David (7-5).

The Plate was also contested on a knockout basis. It produced an exciting final between Judith Pengelly (Leighton-Linslade) and Steve Baldwin (Compton (Eastbourne)). Judith suffered the same fate as her Clubmate David Ball in the main knockout by losing at the golden hoop.

Manager Les Heard presented the prizes and thanked all his club colleagues who had assisted in the preparation and management of the tournament.

Finishing Order:

1.Peter Adams 2.David Ball 3.Nigel Owen 4.Nick Boxall
