Charity 1 ball update 17 May
George Collin’s notes from Nottingham
The follow-on event was at Nottingham on 17th May, and there were 16 players. As our representative I finished with four wins out of six, putting me in the upper half. The event was won by Ken Knock (6) from Pinchbeck, with six wins out of seven. Some will remember him from our Anderson Shield delayed 2024 final at Newport.
From Luton to Nottingham was just under two hours, door to door (parking at the Hockey Centre). So it would be feasible for more than one of us to enter a two-day event there, sharing the driving, without an overnight stay. The main Nottingham lawns haven't been used yet this year. The levelling and re-seeding last autumn was a bit of a disaster, due to the torrential rain (remember our sink-hole?). No matter. Turning left instead of right after going through the main gate leads you to their recently acquired ex-bowls lawns. A fully equipped club house (a mirror image of the other one). An area re-laid as four lawns, all on one level, perfectly flat, with plenty of extra room at one end to move all the lawns sideways. Well, in theory - the ball-stops between the lawns have affected the turf sufficiently so that those strips are currently unusable. Only one weed. Pop-up watering system. Envious? Moi?
